Welcome Mercy Gago, Trinity Weisensel, and Lisa Renier Thomas

The Okonkwo Lab has welcomed three new members to our team:

Mercy Gago is a Community Research Navigator (ADNI Engagement Core). Mercy has several years of experience in the social services field. She has been a Social Worker in child welfare and adult/ elderly services. Over the years, Mercy has engaged with the community and served as an agent to underrepresented populations in Los Angeles and surrounding cities. Mercy has worked with non-profit organizations, Department of Social Services with the state of California, and with the Department of Children and Family Services. She is passionate about helping people reach their full potential. Mercy hopes to expand her career and grow in the field of research in the academic setting.

Trinity Weisensel is a Community Research Navigator (ADNI Engagement Core). Trinity graduated in December of 2023 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received a B.S. in Psychology and Human Development and Family Studies with a certificate in Education and Educational Services. During her undergraduate studies, she engaged with underrepresented populations through various research projects, including the HEALthy Brain and Child Development Study. Trinity also worked as a Mental Health Technician at an inpatient psychiatric facility with patients across the lifespan. She is particularly interested in the influence of environmental factors on the development of Alzheimer’s Disease and the recruitment and retention of underrepresented populations in research.

Lisa Renier Thomas is a Community Research Navigator (ADNI Engagement Core). Lisa has over twenty years of experience supporting communities in her work with public libraries, non-profits, and the UW System. She is passionate about social equity and the importance of lifelong learning.
